Gilead operates in more than 35 countries worldwide, with global headquarter in Foster City, California.The PositionWe are seeking the Senior Manager – Controller for Gilead Sciences Belux. The Controller has an overall responsibility for the accounting and financial process for the Belux and manages key relationships within ACE Region and Financial Shared Services in Ireland. The position reports to the country Finance Director and is based in our Brussels office.The Controller will be responsible for enabling processing of transactions and closing the books in the most effective manner and dealing effectively with the technical issues that arise from changes in the business model, new contracts, tax law, GAAP and other.Next to this, the Controller influences the organization to do “the right thing” and should be the custodian of compliance to global processes and support local implementation of global initiative to ensure the local affiliate is part of the group’s finance team.Essential Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Transactions and Reporting: Manages, prepares, administers, and directs the accounting close and financial reporting process. Reviews and approves accounting transactions and account reconciliations. Manages and prepares external reports and declarations such as: annual accounts, VAT/TAX declaration, Intrastat, CBS, etc. Maintains the chart of accounts, cost center/department structures and an orderly accounting filling systems. Leads month end close review with ACE Regional HQ in explaining variances versus budget and movements on balance sheet. Maintains strong PTP and DSO metrics in changing environment. Close collaboration with INAMI regarding Pharmatax and MEA managament
  • Compliance: Maintains ledger integrity and ensures financial compliance with the worldwide Controller’s manual and to all applicable laws and regulations with special focus on revenue recognition accounting around complex contracts. Maintains a strong set of internal controls with special focus on the Customer Services function to ensure completeness and accuracy of accounting records and adherence to policy e.g. accounting entries, credit control, price management and other key data. Updates, implements and drives adherence to policies (T&E, Credit policy etc.). Coordinates all internal and external audit activities. Serves as an technical expert to other functions and sets the tone around financial compliance.
  • Continuous improvement: Engage with key stakeholders of Global End-to-End process RTR, OTC and PTP and identify and drive process optimization opportunities. Represents market in monthly Operations review with FSS.
  • Business Finance: Partner with commercial operations to ensure a thorough understanding of developments and controls in the supply chain and channel management including oversight of new and existing key contracts.
Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of SAP, Oracle or equivalent ERP system and proficiency with Microsoft tools (Excel, Outlook, Word, Power Point). Gilead is currently in the process to implement SAP.
  • Requires in-depth knowledge of general accounting policies and procedures and GAAP (local and US) as well as local statutory and tax reporting requirements.
  • Strong proficiency in all aspects of accounting as well as project management.
  • Ability to successfully manage relationships in the finance network and interact effectively with non-financial personnel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a matrix organization with multiple functions.
  • Ability to quickly establish credibility with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
  • Excellent presentation skills, analytical skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated success working in a deadline proven and multi-task environment.
  • Ability to take initiative, guide and influence others toward goal achievement.
  • Possesses a pro-active attitude and is eager to learn about country and company specifics related to controllership area.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
Experience
  • BA or BS degree or higher in accounting or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in an Accounting & Control role.
  • Tax, Treasury and Financial Accounting experience required.
  • Experience in biotech or pharmaceutical industry is a plus.
  • Experience in multi-national organization is a plus.
