Thales Belgium, which employs more than 280 collaborators, is specialized in the design, development and supply of critical information systems for customers in the sectors of Defense, Security (including Cyber) and Aerospace.As Design engineer, you will work on the Herstal site within a team of 6 to 8 people consisting of other design engineers and draftsmen, this within the team of Design & Configuration (~12 people) which is part of the Engineering Department. You will report directly to the Design & Configuration team leader. You will interact on regular basis with the draftsmen, product design authority colleagues and configuration manager.Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for providing a component design fulfilling the necessary requirements, released drawings, assemblies and 3D models
  • Align your product/ part design with the necessary stakeholders (PDA, process development, production, quality and purchasing department)
  • Creates rough 3D in Creo, review 3D and 2D made by the draftsmen
Main tasks:
  • Lead creation and development of components (resulting in 3D models and 2D DRW’s according the general design rules e.g. form & place tolerances, material indications, …)
  • Transforms initial rough product designs or sketches into working models and documents
  • Utilize knowledge of various machining technologies, engineering best practices, mathematics, materials, … to verify and complete drawings
  • Maintains/ adapts relationships of models and drawing files in an organized fashion, perform impact analyses for product changes
  • Aligns the product design with the work package manager, PDA, production and quality (e.g. control plan) department
  • Base on the functions of the part (DFMEA), define together with the IVVO the necessary validations, are planned and agreed by the IVVO
  • Perform tolerance stack calculations
  • Assure the design is developed in a cost optimized way, e.g. material, state of the art processes manufacturing processes, treatments, …
  • Experience with problem solving techniques is a plus (e.g. 8D , 5WHY)
Profile:
  • You have a master degree, domain of mechanical engineering, with minimum 3 to 5 years of experience
  • Preferably you live in a range of 45 min from the site of Herstal
  • Experience in Defence, Aerospace or Automotive industry is a plus
  • Experience with Creo and Windchill is mandatory
  • Autonomous, self-motivated, taking ownership and driving topics to fulfill your deadlines
  • You are a team player, good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fluent in French and proficient in English
